Community Guidelines

Last updated: 24 April 2026 · Effective from: 24 April 2026

1. Overview

Sellexa is a marketplace for cultural commerce, a space where buyers and sellers connect across cultures and traditions. These guidelines set the ground rules for behaviour on the platform. They apply everywhere on Sellexa: listings, profiles, reviews, in-app messages, and any other user-generated content.

These guidelines are part of our Terms of Service and reflect our duties under the Online Safety Act 2023, the Equality Act 2010, and other UK law.

2. Anti-discrimination and hate speech

Sellexa prohibits discrimination and hateful conduct on the basis of any protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, including:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin)
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

Examples of prohibited behaviour: refusing service on the basis of a protected characteristic; shop policies that exclude people from a protected group; slurs, derogatory language, or content that supports or glorifies designated hate groups; content that incites violence against a protected group (criminal under the Public Order Act 1986).

3. Harassment

Harassment is prohibited. This includes:

  • Doxxing or non-consensual intimate imagery, sharing personal information for the purpose of intimidation, or sharing intimate images of someone without their consent (criminal under the Online Safety Act 2023).
  • Threats or extortion, including non-violent threats or blackmail.
  • Sexual harassment, sexual solicitation, sending sexual content unsolicited, unwanted romantic advances.
  • Severe insults intended to demean or degrade the recipient.
  • Coordinated harassment ("dogpiling"), organising or joining a group attack on a specific user.
  • Stalking, repeated unwanted contact across platforms.

These rules apply equally to interactions with Sellexa support staff.

4. Content moderation

We use a combination of automated systems and human review to enforce these guidelines and our other policies, including the Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy, the Restricted Content Policy, the Intellectual Property Policy, and the Off-Platform Transactions Policy.

4.1 How we detect violations

  • User reports. Email support@sellexa.app with the URL or message reference and a short description.
  • Automated systems. Server-side filters scan messages for prohibited contact-info, scams, and abusive language. Listings are scanned for keyword and image policy triggers.
  • Internal review. Sellexa moderators review flagged content and escalations.
  • Regulator referrals. We act on inbound notices from UK regulators or law enforcement.

4.2 What we may do

  • Remove or hide content.
  • Restrict messaging or selling privileges.
  • Suspend or terminate the account, with reasons given in writing per the Seller Misconduct & Enforcement Policy (sellers) or our internal account-action procedure (buyers).
  • Refer matters to the police, Trading Standards, the FSA, OFCOM, or other regulators where appropriate.

4.3 Appeals

If your content or account has been actioned, you can appeal by emailing support@sellexa.app within 14 days of the decision. A reviewer who was not involved in the original decision will look at the appeal.

5. Transparency reporting

We will publish an annual transparency report covering: the volume of user reports received, content removed by category (illegal goods, IP, harassment, off-platform solicitation, etc.), accounts actioned, appeals received and outcomes, and any law-enforcement requests. The first report will cover the 12 months from launch.
