Off-Platform Transactions Policy

Last updated: 17 July 2026 · Effective from: 17 July 2026

1. Overview

Sellexa is a marketplace where buyers and sellers connect, communicate, and transact through our platform. This policy explains why we require all transactions and order-related conversations to happen on Sellexa, and what happens if a user tries to take a deal off-platform.

This policy applies to every Sellexa user, buyers and sellers, and works alongside our Seller Agreement, Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

2. Why this matters

On-platform transactions exist for the protection of everyone involved:

  • Buyers get our Buyer Protection, the statutory rights set out in our Returns & Refunds Policy, and a refund route through Stripe if something goes wrong. None of this is available for off-platform deals.
  • Sellers get the protection of Sellexa's held-funds model and chargeback handling. Off-platform payments expose sellers to direct chargeback liability with no platform support.
  • The community only continues to exist because of the commission Sellexa earns on completed orders. Off-platform deals undermine the platform that hosts you.

3. What counts as off-platform transacting

Any of the following is off-platform transacting:

  • Sharing a phone number, email address, WhatsApp link, Instagram or other messenger handle in a Sellexa listing, profile bio, or in-app message in order to take the conversation outside Sellexa. This is about users sharing their own contact details with each other. It does not restrict Sellexa itself, which sends sellers a WhatsApp order notification from its own business number for orders placed on the platform, see the Privacy Policy §3.6. It also does not stop a seller using the buyer's delivery phone number in connection with delivering that order.
  • Encouraging a buyer to complete a Sellexa-initiated transaction through another channel, bank transfer, PayPal Friends & Family, cash, a different website, an in-person handover.
  • Agreeing a price on Sellexa and then asking the buyer to pay a different (lower) price elsewhere to avoid the platform commission.
  • Using a QR code, shortened URL, or image embedded in a listing to direct users off Sellexa.
  • Misrepresenting the item's location or sale terms to circumvent Sellexa's fee or shipping flow.

Once a buyer and seller meet through Sellexa, that relationship counts as a Sellexa relationship. Subsequent orders between the same parties for items they discovered on Sellexa must also be transacted on Sellexa.

4. How we detect it

We enforce this policy in three layers:

  • Automated filtering. Our messaging system scans every message server-side and strips out phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, QR-style content, and known messenger handles before delivery. The original message is retained for moderation review only.
  • Admin review. Our moderation team reviews flagged accounts, repeated filter triggers, and listings that include suspicious contact patterns.
  • Community reports. Any user can report another user via support@sellexa.app. We treat off-platform-solicitation reports as priority.

5. Consequences of breaching this policy

Sanctions are graduated and depend on the severity, intent, and history of the user. Possible actions include:

  • A formal warning recorded against the account.
  • Removal of the offending listing or message.
  • Temporary suspension of selling privileges (typically 7–30 days).
  • Permanent removal from Sellexa, with payouts of completed and undisputed orders honoured.
  • Recovery of unpaid commission on transactions taken off-platform.

Severe or repeated breaches will trigger the higher sanctions immediately. The full enforcement framework is set out in our Seller Misconduct & Enforcement Policy.

6. Reporting

If a buyer or seller has tried to take a transaction off-platform, please report it to support@sellexa.app with the username, listing or order reference, and any screenshots. Reports are confidential.
